Life is about balance and self-love is the paradoxical balance between seeing ourselves as everything and nothing.
Both the most important thing in the whole entire universe, seeing that we are everything and also knowing we are nothing, we are so insignificant that we don’t matter at all.
The balance happens with understanding how we are everything and how we are nothing.
If we can feel that in out hearts and live it in our lives then we are the balance of self-love. We are being our true self, we are being love.
Being everything means showing up in everything we do as the best version of the individual we are, bringing all the awesome uniqueness that only we have to every task. Doing everything we do to the very best of our ability in that moment. No better and no worse than the best we can be right then.
Being nothing means never taking anything personally when we take things personally then we are making ourselves far more important than we actually are we are making life all about us, we are becoming separate from the whole, not to be the unique beautiful individual expression of life that we are, but to become a victim. A victim of not being or having enough, a victim of being more that some and less than others.
I want to remind you that all we can ever be is no better and no worse than the best we can be right now, asking more of ourselves than that is asking the impossible. Punishing ourselves for not being better that we are is pointless and will only serve to keep us no better than we are.
We will know when we are showing up as the unique beautiful interpretation of life that only we can be and when we are showing up as a victim from the feeling that we are living in, in every moment.
If and when we want to become better at self-love the way is through understanding who we are, nothing more and nothing less. I found that my understanding of who I am has deepened exponentially as I have looked in the direction of the three simple spiritual principles that explain my moment-to-moment experience of life.
When I am in this place then I can be true love. True love serves. It is patient it is kind it does not envy it does not boat it is not proud it does not dis-honour others it is not self-seeking it is not easily angered it keeps no record of wrong doing it does not delight in evil it rejoices with truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres.
To know yourself completely is to love yourself completely.
